Individual Therapy FAQs:

1. What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy, also known as counselling or psychotherapy, is a one-on-one process between a trained therapist and a client. The aim is to help individuals address personal challenges, improve mental health, and achieve personal growth.

In individual therapy, clients meet with a licensed therapist in a safe and confidential setting. The sessions focus on exploring thoughts, emotions, and behaviours to develop coping strategies and foster positive changes.

Individual therapy can address a variety of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Stress management
  • Relationship problems
  • Grief and loss
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Low self-esteem
  • Life transitions

The duration of therapy depends on your goals and specific needs. Some individuals benefit from short-term therapy (6-12 sessions), while others may need long-term support over several months or years.

Yes, therapy is strictly confidential. Therapists are bound by professional ethics and legal guidelines to protect your privacy, except in cases where safety is a concern (e.g., harm to yourself or others).

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling to manage day-to-day challenges, therapy could be beneficial. Speaking to a therapist can provide clarity and help you determine the right approach.

Typically, sessions occur once a week, but this can vary based on your needs. Some individuals may attend therapy more frequently initially and reduce sessions as progress is made.

In the first session, I will ask questions to understand your concerns, background, and goals. This is also an opportunity for you to ask me questions and decide if I am a good fit for you.

All individual sessions are £100 and relationship therapy sessions are £150. All fees to please be paid in advance of your appointment time.

Both therapy and counselling involve talking with a trained professional. Generally, counselling focuses on specific issues and shorter-term goals, while therapy explores deeper patterns and long-term personal growth.

No specific preparation is needed, but it can help to think about what you’d like to address in therapy. Being open and honest during sessions will make the process more effective.

Key benefits include:

  • Improved self-awareness
  • Healthier coping mechanisms
  • Better communication skills
  • Increased emotional resilience
  • Greater clarity in decision-making

Yes, research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and stress. Online therapy offers flexibility and accessibility for those with busy schedules.
