Metro – The top chores that cause couples to argue

Chores are a common source of conflict between couples, with certain tasks being particularly contentious. A study conducted by ShowersToYou identified five chores that most frequently lead to arguments: washing dishes, taking out the rubbish, cleaning the kitchen, cleaning the bathroom, and doing the laundry. Surprisingly, tasks like dusting and ironing are far less likely to cause friction. The main reasons for disputes often relate to the perception that a chore hasn’t been done properly or that one partner feels underappreciated for completing their share of the work

Such disagreements can be exacerbated by unequal distribution of household responsibilities, a situation commonly felt more acutely by women due to the “mental load” of household management. This mental load refers to the invisible tasks of planning and organising domestic life, which can be overwhelming when not shared equitably

Addressing these issues requires clear communication, appreciation, and a fairer division of chores to help maintain harmony in relationships.
